Tuition

ScarWork is a gentle, hands-on therapy that helps soften, mobilize, and reconnect the tissue around scars. Developed by Sharon Wheeler, the work signals the body to continue its healing process where it left off — restoring flexibility, mobility, hydration, and drainage to tissue that has been stuck for months, years, or even decades.
A scar reveals the nature of trauma through which it occurred because it is a portrait of how the tissue could no longer keep healing. It distorts our body's fascial fabric and how that fabric functions. ScarWork restarts the repair process with specific techniques — often light and barely detectable — so that more differentiated cells migrate to the area, restoring buoyancy, responsiveness, and integration with the wider fascial network.
Left to its own devices, the body restores itself rather crudely. Wounds heal into scar tissue that functions, but rarely regains the dancing, polyhedron nature of healthy fascia. We need help from an outside system — another set of intelligent hands — to teach our cells how they might belong together in harmony again.
“It's all good tissue, just not in the right place.”— Sharon Wheeler, Creator of ScarWork
After a ScarWork treatment, what was stuck together can start to peel apart, and what was dispersed can come together. Collagen and elastin regain their innate qualities. Clients often see immediate improvements in mobility, sensation, comfort, and appearance — even with scars that are decades old.
This 4-day intensive splits evenly between instruction and practice:
15
Hours of Content & Demonstration
Fascial anatomy, scar physiology, ScarWork technique, and live demonstrations by Joy Carey.
15

Work with real scars across three waves of volunteer models. Leave with confidence that your hands can positively impact any scar that walks through your door.
This is a professional continuing education course attended by a mix of experienced practitioners including massage therapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, acupuncturists, and midwives. 30 NCBTMB CE hours are awarded upon completion.
Joy Carey is a Structural Integrator, Licensed Manual Therapist, and educator with a background in integrative healing arts.
